The fifth edition of the DDays LAC will take place in the beautiful city of Punta del Este, located at the southernmost point in Uruguay, where the Río de la Plata river meets the Atlantic Ocean, and only an hour and a half away from the capital city, Montevideo (for information on how to arrive, please visit: https://ddayslac2018.org/page). The purpose of this meeting is to bring together world specialists on computational, applied, and theoretical research in all areas related to non-linear dynamics with scientists and students from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The goal of this international workshop is to explore the state of the art of the Dark Matter field, discussing the latest developments in all branches: theoretical, collider, direct and indirect, and astro. By bringing together the South American and international community we aim to foster new collaborations and new long-lasting partnerships, at a most timely moment in the development of the field. There is no registration fee.
Astronomers in Brazil have voiced their disappointment after the European Southern Observatory (ESO) suspended the country’s membership following its failure to ratify an agreement struck in 2010. ESO had allowed Brazil to be an interim member, giving its astronomers access to the consortium’s telescopes, but from 1 April scientists will have to apply for time on a similar basis as non-ESO members.

The direct observation of gravitational waves (GWs) by the LIGO scientific collaboration opened the new science of Gravitational Astronomy. Scientists have compared this to Galileo pointing his telescope to the sky, offering instead an ear to the cosmos. After the remarkable landmark of detection, GW science will soon turn into the study of the properties of the sources and address fundamental questions in astrophysics and cosmology. In particular, binary coalescences are posed to become the leading probe to test gravitational dynamics, and the physics of compact objects under unique conditions and GWs propagation can probe the Universe dynamics on cosmological scale.
